The Midsommarfest 2013 Stage Line Up Is Here!

It is hard to believe, but in just five short weeks we will be kicking off the neighborhood's favorite weekend of the year, our 48th annual Andersonville Midsommarfest!

WHAT IS MIDSOMMARFEST ALL ABOUT?
Midsommarfest is the time of year when Andersonville comes together to celebrate our vibrant, friendly and diverse neighborhood.  It is also the main fundraiser for the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and the Andersonville Development Corporation, who work with our renowned locally-owned business community. Much of what you see throughout the year, from our Farmer's Market and Neighborhood Guide to the streetscape recycling bins and the new bike corrals, have originated from our office.  Most of these initiatives have been started in the past 10 years, and almost none of it would have happened without the incredible growth of Midsommarfest and the support of people like you.

But as always, there is more work to be done, and we need your help to ensure a strong Andersonville.  This year, we are asking for a $10 donation at the entrance gates.  We hope you will consider donating, and view it as a small investment in a great neighborhood!

AND NOW FOR THE MUSIC...
This year we are thrilled to feature entertainment on all five stages for the entire weekend!  We have Swedish entertainment (including, for the first time, the premier ABBA cover band ABBA Salute on Saturday night!), kids entertainment, up-and-coming local acts, long time festival favorites, Chicago singer-songwriters, a few DJs, crowd favorites the Chicago Spirit Brigade and the Windy City Cowboys - the list goes on and on.  And speaking the list, the full line up of the 2013 Andersonville Midsommarfest stage schedule is after the jump!

  1. YEA!!!! The JOANS! I'm glad Andersonville is showing love this year to Chicago's MOST LEGENDARY Band! My dog and I are disappointed you're not doing a dog talent show this year, however. He's been practicing his "Magic Mike" routine all week.

  2. A $10 donation to support chain stores, overpriced restaurants and boutiques. no thanks, bring back the old Andersonville and the local mid-priced businesses. It now looks and feels like Bucktown!

    1. We hope that Midsommarfest attendees will see our $10 suggested donation as a chance to make a small investment in a great community. All donations are used to directly support programs for our local business (92% of which are locally owned, and independently operated), sustainable initiatives, streetscape enhancements, and other local, non-profits groups and schools.

    2. Colleen O - Many of us just can't afford that, especially if we go both days. It is a big jump in price. While it is nice to see the neighborhood grow, I visit less often because more and more of the stores and restaurants are too expensive.

    3. Hi Eric - Thank you very much for your comments, we do appreciate the feedback. As always, our gate donations are suggested amounts ($5 Friday, $10 Saturday/Sunday). I would encourage participants to give what they can or what they feel comfortable giving if the suggested amount is not feasible. We train all of our gate volunteers to understand that giving is optional and that donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. If for any reason you feel this is not the case at one of our gates, please let us know at the Chamber Booth. The most important thing to us is that patrons of the festival enjoy the time they spend at Midsommarfest and feel like the work we are doing brings value to a community that we love.

  3. What I see is a thriving business district that promotes small local business, and I love going and talking to proprietors and shopping locally. There are certainly high-end stores, but there are also plenty of places to shop and eat for us plain old folks. Also, why is it that nobody blinks at cover charges for crappy bars, or ridiculous ticket prices for boring overrrated baseball, but they can't spare ten measly bucks to supposrt local business? I'll be there, Midsommarfest!

  4. What is going on with the same handfull of chain businesses at EVERY Chicago fest? This needs to stop.

  5. Also, $10 IS pretty steep for some of us. I think I've paid a cover charge maybe a couple of times in 4 years, never go to ball games, and would rather spend the $10 in one of the local businesses!

I think the "suggested" part should be emphasized. I had friends who were given a very hard time, even though they just needed to get across the street, to buy something at one of the businesses represented here.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Susan - Thank you for your comments. The $10 donation is certainly suggested, and any donation amount is welcome. If this is ever an issue at one of our gates please let us know at the Chamber Booth. We do also strongly encourage participants to shop at our local businesses during the fest. After a successful debut of the promotion last year, we have again brought back our "Spend $30" campaign - offering a free beverage to anyone who spends at least $30 at one of Andersonville's local, independent retail, wellness, or service businesses during Midsommarfest weekend (restaurants excluded). If you choose to shop locally during the festival, bring your receipt by our Chamber Booth and we'll be glad to give you a free beer (21 and up only) or soda.

  8. All those bands don't work for free. Struggling musicians need to get paid. And compare that to what you would pay at a venue.
