Nominate an Andersonville Business for the "Good Neighbor" Award

Everyone knows that Andersonville is full of great local businesses, but now is the time to start playing favorites. So what is your favorite place in Andersonville? Well where ever you love to shop, dine or drink, consider nominating your favorite Aville spot for the "Good Neighbor" Award.

Representative Kelly Cassidy is now soliciting nominations for this year's "Good Neighbor" Award. Recognizing the many businesses that work to improve our communities, support local charitable events and provide great services to loyal patrons, the "Good Neighbor" Award seeks to showcase businesses that truly stand out. Nominees for the award must display a dedication to improving the community and meet the criteria of being the type of business that not only cares about the community but is also an all around good neighbor.

All nominations are welcome and anyone can nominate a business. Nominations must be received by January 15, 2012. Judging will be conducted by members of Rep. Cassidy's Economic Development Advisory Committee. In addition to being named the recipient of the "Good Neighbor" Award, the winner will be recognized by the  Illinois House of Representatives.

The Affordability of Farmer's Markets

A recent study by consulting firm SCALE, Inc. reveals that Farmer's Markets across the Southeast and Appalachia are often as affordable, if not more so, as their supermarket counterparts. Analyzing markets in 19 different towns, across six states, researchers conclude that farmers markets offer a competitive alternatives when comparing "every day foods". In most cases items such as produce, including organic produce, where less expensive than at local supermarkets. While the study found that meats were somewhat more expensive the trend that farmer's markets are comparatively affordable emerged across communities of all sizes, to varying degrees.
